In South Africa, matriculation is the final year of high school and the qualification received on graduating from high school, and the minimum university entrance requirements.

In India, "matriculation" is a term commonly used to refer to the final year of high school or secondary school certificate examination, which ends at tenth standard and the qualification received on finishing the tenth standard of high school and passing the or the state board exams, commonly called "matriculation exams".

The expression "matriculating the ball down the field" is an overheard and unexplained usage by the American coach Hank Stram, which has become a standing joke occasionally referenced by sportscasters.
