James Allen Whitmore III, better known as James Whitmore Jr., is an American actor and director, best known for his roles as Captain Jim Gutterman on the television program Baa Baa Black Sheep, Freddie Beamer in The Rockford Files, and Sgt Bernie Terwilliger in Hunter, and since the 1980s as a prolific television director.
